Lost & Found Opening and Awards

Last Friday, May 6th was the opening date and reception for Lost & Found. 25 artists started with a unique “kit” and using a portion of every item, created a work of art. Wow, we really have some “outside of the box” artists here in Brevard County. So many wonderful pieces were unveiled at the opening… and the creative energy was very invigorating!

We were originally going to present 2 awards… one for Creativity, and the other for Most Unified Use of Materials. Our judge, graphic designer, photographer, painter and past member of the gallery,  Suzanne Clements was very impressed with all the finished artworks and donated additional funds to create more awards. A BIG thanks to Suzanne for her amazing support as our judge and patron.

Robin Maria Pedrero, the 2015 100% Pure Florida Judge

Fifth Avenue Art Gallery is excited to announce that Robin Maria Pedrero, of Longwood, Florida will be this year’s awards judge for 100% Pure Florida Juried Exhibition.

Robin Maria Pedrero paints the spirit and energy of life in rhythmic layers of color. Her vibrant poetic work combines natural and imaginary elements.  She responds to what catches her eyes and heart personifying nature.  “I use a symbolic visual language exploring both the visible and invisible creating a commentary on relationships and thoughts. As I work the images can be unexpected flowing from gathered memories. Music plays a role in my process and seeps into my art.  I build layers making connections and a story comes forth and unfolds. The work evolves, and quite often by the time the painting is finished it has a history of stories interwoven in the layers.”

Born in Connecticut in 1964, Pedrero is an award winning artist with work in museum permanent collections, in film and collected worldwide. She enjoys to map the countries where her work has been collected; America, Great Britain, Bahrain, Italy, Spain, Scotland, Canada, Mexico, Denmark, Australia and New Zealand. She is an elected signature member of the Pastel Society of America. Pedrero creates from her Florida studio and is awarded Best Artist in Florida 2012 by Baterbys Art Auction Gallery, listed in Florida International Magazine’s Florida Artists Hall of Fame and the featured solo artist in September 2015 at the Lake Eustis Museum of Art in Florida. Pedrero works from her home studio in Longwood Florida, enjoying the company of her dog Max A. Million.

Good Enough To Eat, Solo Exhibition by Frank Spino

Makin'_OJ-2 (769x1024)

Frank Spino is our award winning guest artist for March, with his solo exhibition entitled, “Good Enough to Eat”. “This show focuses on my fascination with painting citrus”,  Spino says.”Color excites me. Realism and rich, saturated color are what my art is all about.  I love the vibrant color and challenging textures: thick, dimpled rinds; thin, transparent slices, freshly cut and glistening wet with juice. We think you will agree… his painting look  – “Good Enough to Eat” .

In 1971, Mr. Spino received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Ohio University, but said his “real” education came from the famous painter Henry Hensche, who he studied under at the Cape School of Arts in Cape Cod, Mass.”My understanding of color came from him,” he said. “We painted outdoors every day, sunny or overcast.”

Frank will be participating in our Second Saturday event on the 15th of March when he will be talking about his paintings and watercolor.
