STRIPES, A Solo Exhibit by Linda Schuler

I’ve always been drawn to things made by hand… art that carries a story, a memory, a little piece of the person who created it. My love for making art began when I was young, sitting beside my grandparents as they sewed, cooked, and crafted beautiful, imperfect, meaningful things. Those moments shaped not only my creativity, but the way I see the world.
Travel has also been a lifelong inspiration. I inherited a deep sense of wanderlust from my grandparents, and I’ve followed it across countries and continents… often with a camera in hand. I take hundreds of photos each week, capturing textures, colors, faces, and everyday moments that later find their way into my paintings. I usually select just one or two of my favorites to transform into artwork, letting intuition guide which images become part of my collection.
Whether I’m exploring a new place or working quietly in my studio, my greatest joy is creating pieces that make people feel something… connection, nostalgia, curiosity, peace. If my work brought you here, I’m so glad. I’d love for you to look around and enjoy the gallery. Knowing someone has stopped by to share in this creative journey means the world to me.

Margaret Culver Solo Exhibit

I have been an active horsewoman for most of my life. My experiences with horses have inspired me and given me a special insight into their world of emotion and spirit. With my art, I strive to share the wonder and reverence I have for these magnificent beings. I wish to depict their unique strength and passion, along with their kindness and devotion. These are aspects of the horse that I know to be true. I have had my horse save me from certain disaster when I have made a mistake jumping a fence. I have felt my horse step up and correct my error, avoiding a crash. I have had my horse carry me through forests so thick that I have had to bury my face in his neck to avoid getting knocked off his back. Not being able to see where I was going, I have trusted him to safely gallop through until it was safe for me to look up again. I also treasure the quiet times with my horse when he sees me and eagerly canters to the gate to greet me and say hello. I enjoy hearing him gently nicker when I walk to his stall to scratch his head and have him nuzzle my cheek. These elements inspire my art. I hope you can share them with me.

This Is Us
a member’s exhibition
The face behind the art.
Have you ever wondered who is the artist behind the art you just purchased? In
viewing artworks, are you curious as to how the artist achieved that technique?
Conversely, artists love to know who is interested in their art.
From February 3 to March 1, 2026 the Fifth Avenue Art Gallery will host a special
member exhibition entitled “This Is Us”. The concept is to add a personal touch
to the variety of paintings, sculpture and photography currently on display in the
gallery. Each of our thirteen members will be present to discuss their work,
technique and vision. This is a unique event and offers a great opportunity for
the public to interact directly with our artists.
The February 6 event will include music, refreshments and a chance to win a
fabulous gift basket of member art. This should prove to be a unique and
informative evening for everyone. Come out and support the arts!

Barbara Desroisers
Intuitively Speaking, Conversations with the Guardians

Artist’s Statement
Creation has been my driving force since I could hold a crayon. Art, the
creation of and the viewing of, has always been a spiritual search, a search for
connection to the other side. After years of being a representational artist, The
Guardians emerged for me in 1981. In the beginning they were but a
suggested presence in the background. However, in recent years they have
grown to be my sole focus. They are a bridge between this reality and the
unseen reality that exists just beyond our breath.
My work has morphed from representational to the more intuitive abstract
work that I now produce. Creating is my form of personal meditation. If my
work speaks to you, that is wonderful. I feel it finds its own audience. I do not
assign meaning to it, that is entirely up to you, the viewer, to define. Each
piece has a message for personal interpretation. I do not claim the power to
know what that might be for you. Please, spend some time conversing with my
Guardians and see if you, too, can find a connection.
Barbara L Desrosiers, biography
Barbara grew up in New Jersey and began college at Barrington College in RI.
She left school to marry and begin an Air Force wife adventure. In Taiwan she
began studying batik with a local artist and also worked in oils. From there she
moved to MA and taught batik privately and continued further work now in
watercolor. Her path then led to RI where she worked in pen and ink and began
taking workshops in watercolor. All this led to re-entering college at URI for a
degree in studio arts.
While earning her BFA she began studies in digital art, photography,
printmaking and painting. After college she was fortunate to live in Europe for 3
years. The immense exposure to art all over Europe was heavily influential in her
artistic growth, while she worked in marketing and publicity on the local Air
Force Base. In 2005 her husband was assigned to Patrick AFB where he
ultimately retired. They have lived in Melbourne ever since. Over the years she
has worked diligently to merge all these disciplines and experiences into what
she produces today, abstract intuitive digital painting and mixed media.

Elise Geary Solo Exhibition

Elise Geary is a multiple award winning artist from Vero Beach. Since retiring from her medical practice in NC, she has been able to devote herself fully to her long standing love of creating art.
Her inspiration stems from the widely varying energies and elements of nature (calm vs. turbulent, gentle vs. forceful, quiet vs. energetic)…as well as the beauty that surrounds us each day.
Realistic elements are purposely minimized as she uses color and dynamic techniques to paint the power and mood of a place, time, or thing rather than the actual thing itself. This allows the viewer to connect to the painting in their own individual way based on their own unique inner core of experiences.

Ondine Constable and Ray A. Cooper group exhibition
Birdland;
a father and daughter’s shared artistic vision of birds and their habitat

This father/daughter exhibit explores the lives of birds—their food, shelter and social behavior. Ray’s art reflects his observations of the changing environment and his concerns for the web of life. He uses chalk pastel, oil paint, acrylic paint, and wax pastel. Ondine’s artwork in this exhibit are clay wall pieces rendered in low-relief (a sculptural technique in which the design is raised slightly from the background) and painted with egg tempera and wax pastels.
Both artists find joy and solace in the process of reflecting on the natural world, and by expressing their respect for the birds and the habitat they depend on for survival.

ERNESTO GARCIA, HORIZON MEMORY
“I work with the superposition of textures and chromatic contrasts to talk about duality. Light and shadow, sky and abyss, consciousness and subconscious. I do not offer closed answers, but a space where the viewer can project their own silences.” ~ Ernesto Garcia

Ernesto Garcia is a young, undiscovered artist whose compelling journey and raw talent embody the spirit of perseverance and hope. Born amid the political chaos and poverty of Cuba, Ernesto’s early life was marked by struggle, loss, and a relentless pursuit of freedom. In search of a brighter future for his wife and two small children, he made the brave decision to leave behind everything familiar and venture to the United States—driven by a dream of opportunity and the promise of the American Dream.
Ernesto’s art is a vivid testament to his tumultuous journey. His work is characterized by a gritty yet beautiful aesthetic—an intricate dance between darkness and light that captures the complex emotions within us all. To some, his paintings evoke visions of Hell, Purgatory, or Heaven; scenes where life and decay coexist, flourishing amidst adversity. Every brushstroke seems to carry the weight of his experiences, yet also radiates a profound hope, illustrating life’s resilience and the transformative power of perseverance.
What makes Ernesto’s art truly remarkable is its layered depth. As complex and textured as his own story, his paintings invite viewers to look deeper, to discover stories hidden beneath the surface. Each piece resonates with passion—passion born from life’s struggles, love for family, and the unyielding desire for freedom. His vibrant use of color and raw technique reveal a man who finds beauty in chaos and meaning in pain, transforming hardship into inspiring works of art.
Ernesto Garcia’s journey is far from over, but through his art, he shares a universal message: that in the midst of darkness, there is always a flicker of light; in the depths of despair, the seeds of hope and renewal are sown. As he continues to develop his craft, Ernesto remains an artist to watch—a storyteller whose work speaks of resilience, liberation, and the endless pursuit of a better life.
In every canvas, Ernesto tells the story of a man who refused to be defeated by circumstance, choosing instead to forge beauty from the struggle, and hope from adversity. His art, still in its early days of recognition, promises to touch many souls and remind us all of the transformative power of courage and vision.
