Vicki Morrison

Vicki Morrison I’m an abstract and impressionist painter working in my studio in Vero Beach, Florida. I grew up in Miami, Fl., then spent more than 30 years in Southern California where I raised my children and finished a degree in Drawing and Painting from California State University, Long Beach. While I’ve been a maker for most all my life, I was also a critical care nurse for many years. Do these things influence my work? I believe so. My work is often landscape oriented, though not as intention, but as the result of an intuitive start. I like working large, the 60-72” large size, but still play with smaller canvas, wood and paper supports. Working on wood adds another tool to the process as I can add sanding away, then re-applying and building up the image with paint, collage, drawing, and utilizing various mark making tools, graphite, charcoal, pastel and oil stick. I love beginning the painting process with play, when drawing, painting and experimentation let things happen. Then build on that start. Size and color choices are often what first attract people to my work. I think the abstract forms can be a draw even to the inexperienced art viewer. It’s great to interact with people as they discern meaning from my work, sometimes an eye opener for me! Most of all, I love when my work really resonates with the viewer and they love it too.
