THE WORLD AS I SEE IT
Jim Kalupa
January 1–27, 2024
First Friday Opening Reception January 5th, 5:30–8:30 p.m.
Please join us at the Fifth Avenue Art Gallery on Friday, January 5, 2024, 5:30–8:30 p.m. for the opening reception of The World As I See It, a solo-exhibition of photo art, by Jim Kalupa.
A Wisconsin native, Jim previously lived in Florida, Puerto Rico and Los Angeles, California. Brevard County became home in 2005. Photography and travel are two of the great passions in his life. As a result, he has covered much of the globe in well over forty years, always with camera in hand. While much of his work is travel inspired, most recently he has started capturing the beauty of his Florida home. He studied photography formally in the 1980s, but career obligations at the time required his full attention. Since moving to Florida, he’s become completely dedicated to his photo art which he views as a constant and evolving challenge.
JANUARY POP-UP SHOW
Grace Cormier
“Grace Cormier produces works in a variety of artistic mediums. Her repertoire ranges from paintings and sculpture to textile fiber art, jewelry and mixed medium. In most of her work there are combinations of unusual findings that she gathered and collected for many years. They are recycled silks, plant dyed fabrics, repurposed rusted drills or nails for unique patina dyeing, copper, brass and gemstones from around the world. Much of her recent Fiber Art is based on Japanese aesthetics philosophy of Wabi-sabi… “Rustic elegance, impermanence and imperfect simplistic beauty and Boro…” Art in mending and restoring textiles with Sashiko stitching. Very often She does not make preparatory drawings. Instead, she lets the work to spontaneously come into being. Her “Golden Bowl” was featured in this year’s summer edition of Fiber Art Now Magazine. Recently one of her paintings was chosen by Vero Beach Museum of Art for the exhibition of Treasure Coast Creates: A Tribute to Local Artists. Her work has been shown in several local Galleries and with many awards for her paintings and fiber art. She came to reside in Sebastian, Florida via Long Island and Poland. SOUTHERN ROOTS; Where the Alligators Live
Solo Exhibition by Renee Decator
January 29–February 24, 2023
First Friday Opening Reception February 2nd, 5:30–8:30 p.m.
Chickens and a garden, summer watermelons, canning pickles and vegetables, LOTS of great fishing, and church.
That’s a pretty good depiction of my youth.
“I grew up in Florida. I was 8 years old when we moved here, from Alabama. Some people claim that Florida isn’t “Southern”… but it is, depending on what part of the state you live in, and the people that were involved in your upbringing.
The title of my show is based on a very old postcard I found, it is of the St John’s River area, and the sender had written on the back of the card, “This is where the alligators live”. I just LOVED that description of a river I have spent a lot of time on, boating and fishing… and spying alligators.” ~Renee Decator

FEBRUARY POP-UP SHOW
EMILY NEEL

Emily Neel is a passionate and prolific artist, having studied all facets of art for many years before ultimately finding her niche as an expressive impressionist oil painter.
Neel began with urban sketching, acrylics, and mixed media, but has learned that the luminous quality of oil paint is her medium of choice, (gouache being a close second.)She paints all sizes- from miniature works in Altoids tins, to much larger pieces. She enjoys landscapes, figurative works and portraits, feeling that painting all genres strengthens the next. She is inspired and influenced by Joaquin Sorolla, Issac Levitan, John Singer Sargent and Emily LaCarr and frequently paints master copies to learn from these great artists.
Learning to think and see like a painter has opened up a whole new chapter in her life, and she feels incredibly lucky to have found her passion. She often wonders if her university study abroad program at the Sorbonne in Paris (a semester of art and literature) years ago had a little something to do with all this— this beloved art class lay dormant in her subconscious for so long.
You can often find Emily painting at the beach “en plein air”, capturing all the local color: ocean waves and palm trees, as well as fishermen, surfers and families enjoying the exquisite little barrier island she lives on in Melbourne Beach, Florida.

APRIL POP-UP SHOW
DANEE DAMORE
Rediscovering Wonder: A Journey Into the Inner Child

“Coming from a family of artists, art has been a consistent thread celebrated throughout my life. As a self-taught oil painter, my work is the product of dedicated practice over the last decade. My artistic journey leads me to paint a variety of subjects, but I feel most at home when I am painting portraits. Being a full-time mother and artist means that I often feel very disconnected from the outside world but within my studio practice I find myself bridging that gap by studying my subjects and capturing their true essence. Beyond achieving a likeness, my goal with is to seek to understand my subjects’ innermost thoughts, dreams, and vulnerabilities. With each brushstroke, I am unraveling an obscured narrative. I never tire of painting the human face as it serves as a vast palette of expressions and moods. In each portrait that I paint, I recognize a small part of myself within it. My hope is that I can share that intimate connection with the viewer and encourage them to connect with their own curiosity, empathy, and shared sense of humanity.” ~DANEE DAMORE

The Candy Cartel
Candy Cartel, the idea for the show started when I saw my grandson walking outside to go to the beach in his big hat and sunglasses and thought it looked hilarious, so I told him to stand still, and I took a photo. After starting on the painting, I didn’t have a background so just went with a geometric shape giving it a contemporary feel. After I was finished, I was kept looking at it, it looked like a wanted poster of a gangster, or a cartel member… so what kind of cartel would a kid be like in, kids like candy so a Candy Cartel.
Then I needed more than one kid to have a cartel so started looking for hats, sunglasses, and kids. I’ll have four “members” of the Candy Cartel; Pablo Hershey -barr, Kit Kat, Baby Ruthless, Raule Reese.
My inspiration comes from the world around me, other artists, a TV commercial, anything can trigger an idea. I only work in oil. I first do a complete charcoal drawing, allowing me to more easily make adjustments before I start painting. I study other realist painters; I found that’s how Norman Rockwell worked, and things turned out pretty well for him. Now I understand why his paintings look so perfect.

Lost & Found—Take V An Invitational Exhibit
July 1–July 27, 2024

How it works…
Back by popular demand… This exhibit is all about creativity, and YOU are invited to participate. We had such a great response to both the original Lost & Found show several years ago and again in August of 2021. Along with being an exciting opportunity for creative types, it is a fabulous exhibit of finished work that everyone coming to the gallery has enjoyed!
You, the creative person (you don’t have to be a “professional artist) purchase one of our pre-assembled kits which contains all the “elements” that you must include, in some manner, to create your mixed media assemblage. You can add to it to go further than what’s in the kit… that’s just part of being your creative-self. We hope you take the challenge. Kits will be available for purchase mid-April, 2024. The finished artworks will be displayed and for sale, throughout the month of July and we will have an exciting opening reception for all our participants on Friday, July 5, 2024. LIMITED SPACE! Kit fee $45 (no additional fee to participate) Follow us on Facebook to see the Call For Art! Or email us and ask for an update, once the kits are ready for purchase. They go fast!

Flow of Passion: A Dancer’s Story
All her life, Kathleen has been drawn to narratives and metaphors, both the stories of people and to visual stories in her art. She began photography in a traditional darkroom including formal instruction and degree. She not only documents the world she sees, but she seeks to capture a moment that moves and involves the viewer. Kathleen now uses alternative processes and encaustic wax methods to combine elements into hand-crafted pieces with layers, textures, and narrative. After she retired from teaching at the college level, she began to teach art and photography classes where her passion is to help students get the results they desire rather than to simply impart skills. Kathleen enjoys sharing her artwork; she is currently represented in a Florida gallery as well as actively participating in local art associations and national encaustic organizations. She competes at local and regional art shows where she has received numerous awards including best of show, and her work is published internationally.

“Lux in Profundis: The Art of Theo Polymorphos”
1ST PLACE WINNER OF OUR 18TH ANNUAL JURIED EXHIBITION, 100% PURE FLORIDA

Théo Polymorphos (né Derek Poulton) is a North American painter of imaginative realism, whose art explores the mysterious journey of the soul, exploring themes of ecstasy, initiation and metamorphosis. After more than a decade wandering the globe as a development consultant, he rekindled his childhood love of drawing and painting with Lacey Lewis at the School of Realist Art in Kansas City, Missouri. Figure drawing quickly became an obsession, as did oil painting soon after. The experience of rigorous instruction in traditional realism gave him a newfound sense of satisfaction in artmaking, catalyzing a total reorientation in life. He recently completed a three-year course in imaginative realist methodologies under Tenaya Sims at the Georgetown Atelier in Seattle, Washington. He currently resides in Central Florida where he continues to develop his portfolio.

I consider myself an experimental artist and I’ve always felt compelled to create. I work in various mediums and use a wide variety of tools and techniques to pull my visions together.
In this collection of works, my intention is to explore people. People from all walks of life, real and imagined, through time, and through the lens of my abstracted style. I’ve worked with acrylics, assemblage, sculpture, mixed media, fused glass, encaustics and collage to build this world of faces and figures. I hope they touch you the way they have me. ~Helen Wheatley
