The Fifth Avenue Art Gallery is excited to announce our March exhibition; Rare Earth 2012. This is an invitational clay show that will feature the works of 7 talented potters. The work will include both functional and non-functional aspects of contemporary clay work. The artists included in the exhibition are:

Gallery member, Rene Griffith will give a presentation entitled,
Creative Photography with Polaroid Cameras and Films: A Lost Art?

Rene, a former Polaroid Creative Uses Consultant in San Francisco, worked exclusively with Polaroid films for nearly a decade. She’ll talk about the history of Polaroid, show assorted vintage cameras, and show samples of the creative techniques produced using various Polaroid films and cameras. Rene, best known for her hand-altered Polaroid “fauxtographs” will also talk about her own photography and travels using a vintage 1972 Polaroid SX-70 camera.

Mark Mittleman

Composition in Photography

Mark Mittleman will talk about “Composition in Photography”. Using examples from his portfolio of photographs, Mark will cover over a dozen topics including choice of lens, portrait or landscape, filling the frame, rule of thirds, lines, angles, framing, patterns, colors etc.

The object of the discussion is to help the photographer interpret what is seen in the viewfinder/screen and make adjustments to improve the photograph.

To celebrate…the gallery’s first exhibition of 2012 is a look at the neighborhood.

We have captured some of the sights of EGAD, (Eau Gallie Arts District) presented in square formats. The district includes the Brevard Art Museum and Museum School, administrative offices of the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, Historic Rossetter House Museum and Gardens, Eau Gallie Public Library, Eau Gallie Civic Center, two public parks, a band shell, the Fifth Avenue Art Gallery along with some wonderful shops and additional art studios and galleries. We are fortunate to be a part of such a vibrant arts community! We hope you will come and enjoy our expressions of Eau Gallie.

The reception is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Afterward continue your stroll down the street to enjoy dinner and other shops and galleries as well as the Foosaner Art Museum in beautiful Eau Gallie.

Italian Docking 

The Fifth Avenue Art Gallery invites you to join us for the opening of a solo-exhibition by Beth Anne Fairchild; “How Deep is your Color”. Beth Anne works through many thin layers of paint. The layers work with the colors beneath the top layers giving a glow that can only be achieved with watercolor paintings. Most paintings take from several weeks to months to finish because of this process. Beth Anne spends as much time as needed to achieve a deep, rich 3D feeling to her paintings. She experiments with colors to get a realistic object but with surprise colors and uses strong light for deep shadows and texture for interest.

The exhibit runs through October 30th. Don’t miss it!

100% Pure Florida is our current exhibition, in the front room gallery. Our 6th annual juried exhibition is one of our most exciting shows each year, highlighting the talents from artists across the state.

We put out our “call for art” late spring, and open this show up to any Florida artist, 18 years of age and up.

Terry Hummel, entertainment writer for the Orlando Sentinel visits Fifth Avenue Art Gallery. His review:

I’ve been spending my summer at our beach house in Cocoa Beach, so I’ve been exploring and enjoying the art happenings in Brevard County. The art hub along this part of the coast seems to be the historic section of Melbourne known as the Eau Gallie Arts District. There are at least seven galleries along one short block of Highland Avenue (Highland straddles Eau Gallie Boulevard, just west of the causeway) and a few more on the next block, including the Brevard Museum of Art. My two favorite galleries are the long-established Fifth Avenue Art Gallery (1470 Highland Ave, 321-259-8261), which is directly across from the BMA, and the almost brand-new EGAD Art Lab (1405 Highland Ave., 321-258-2119). Fifth Avenue, established in 1975, is a co-op gallery that has refined its membership and the gallery to the point that it rivals almost any private commercial gallery in the state. I really can’t think of a gallery in Orlando that equals Fifth Avenue for its consistency of quality of all original art.
